In this episode of ‘Your Business Boost’ podcast I am going to share one of my most impactful business growth strategies – being a guest on other people’s podcasts.
9 times out of 10, when I ask someone how they came to find me it is from guest speaking on a podcast or event. I am joined today by Christina Lenkowski who is a podcast pitch pro. She loves helping underrepresented speakers and authors step into the spotlight and uses podcasts to do this. So I have brought her on today to go deep into this strategy.
Christina loves how podcasts are such a low barrier of entry as a media platform. ‘You can get your story out there and create opportunities for yourself so easily’ says Christina. Don’t pay attention to podcast download numbers. If you are invited to be a guest ‘say yes’ she says, ‘You may think 100 downloads per episode isn’t a high number but you wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to speak to a room of 100.’
If you would like to be a podcast guest, you need a good pitch. ‘Personalisation and connection are key… ask what value you bring to their audience’ says Christina. ‘Create a personal connection – listen to their show, research them and connect’ and finally, ‘come with solid topic ideas – make it easy for the host!’ Come with gratitude, share their episodes on your own platforms and finally, listen to the show to get into the right mindset before you’re interviewed. ‘It all comes back to taking a service over self-promotion mentality.’
What if you want to start your own podcast – what do you need to know to be a good host? ‘Be prepared and consistent’ says Christina.
Ultimately, Podcasts are about connection. They allow people to get to know you, like you and trust you without even meeting you. This has been the case in my experience and I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and give it a try!
